Bloke saws inside Ikea furniture and is astounded by what he discovers – and he’s not the only one whose mind is blown
A MAN has been left stunned after he discovered what was inside Ikea flat-pack furniture.
Astounded by his discovery, he took to social media to share it and people’s minds have been blown.
James Sutter purchased the flatpack desk but decided to cut it in half while completing the DIY job.
While he knew it was fake wood, he was surprised to see what it was really made of.
He said: “I always knew that Ikea furniture was fake wood—particle board with a veneer on top.
“Fine, whatever. But last night I sawed into my desk and discovered the particle board *itself* is a lie.
“FOLKS IKEA WOOD IS LITERALLY CARDBOARD.”
However, James made it clear he wasn’t upset by the discovery, just very surprised.
He added: “To be clear, I don’t have a problem with this: it’s cheap, light, and works. But it was extremely surprising!” He also pointed out that it makes modification slightly more tricky.
People were quick to respond to the Twitter thread and many were surprised to see it was made of cardboard.
One person wrote: “Ahhh. Ok! That is very weird about the cardboard.”
Another commented: “My office is built on a throne of lies! A sturdy, very affordable throne of lies.”
“HAHAHAH this made me laugh SO hard. Unbelievable,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Huh. Not super useful to know, but surprisingly interesting to know.”
Someone else added: “…. Reality Broken.”
An IKEA Spokesperson told the Mirror: ” At IKEA all of our products are designed with form, function, sustainability, affordability and quality in mind.
“In order to minimise waste, we strive to use materials in the most efficient way.
“By using a strong honeycomb pattern paper filling inside some products it allows us to produce more pieces using less raw materials and at the same time reduce the price for people without compromising on quality.
“Product material information is clearly displayed in store and online. Should any customer have questions about the materials used in their IKEA furniture they can contact our customer care team in store or on 020 3645 0000.”
