England Cricketer Alex Hales Announces Retirement From International Cricket
STAR England cricketer has announced retirement from International cricket ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 set to be held in India entirely for the first time. Hales was also the hero in England’s victory over India in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022.
Hales announced his retirement through a post on his Instagram. He wrote “Hi guys, Just a note to announce that I have decided to retire from international cricket. It has been an absolute privilege to have represented my country on 156 occasions across all three formats.”
“I’ve made some memories and some friendships to last a lifetime and I feel that now is the right time to move on. Throughout my time in an England shirt I’ve experienced some of the highest highs as well as some of the lowest lows. It’s been an incredible journey and I feel very content that my last game for England was winning a World Cup final.”
“Throughout the ups and downs I’ve always felt a huge amount of support from my friends, family and undoubtedly the best fans in world cricket. I look forward to continuing to play for Notts and experiencing more franchise cricket around the world,” Hales concluded.
The decision of Hales came just a few days after the veteran pacer Stuart Broad announced his retirement during the fifth Ashes Test that England went on to win by 49 runs.
Cricket fans were already dealing with the farewell of Stuart Broad when another English cricket icon announced his retirement. Hales will continue to play franchise cricket.
The batter has represented the ‘Three Lions’ in 75 T20Is, 70 ODIs and 11 Tests. He has 2074 T20I runs, 2419 ODI runs, and 573 runs in the red-ball format of the game.
