Woman raped after getting into registered taxi as cops launch probe to find her attacker
A WOMAN has been raped after getting into a registered taxi as cops now launch a probe to find her attacker.
The victim got into the cab on Paragon Street, Hull, just after midnight on Sunday.
Moments into the journey, she was attacked by the driver.
Humberside Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Clough said the woman has been left “distressed” and is now receiving support from specialist officers.
He said:“The woman has understandably been left distressed and we are providing her with support alongside partnering agencies.
“I know this incident will be of extreme concern to the local community, I want to offer my reassurance that over the course of the last five days, I’ve had a team of detectives conducting multiple lines of enquiry including the review of CCTV in Hull City Centre at the time to identify the vehicle concerned.
“If anyone has information, no matter how small, which could be the vital piece of information we need to further our investigation and hold those responsible to account then I would urge them to come forward.
“Whilst incidents of this nature remain incredibly rare, as we head into the weekend, I would urge members of the public to please remain vigilant if in the night time economy.
“We have been, and continue to treat this investigation as a priority, and members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the city centre over the weekend as officers from our Neighbourhood Policing team step up patrols alongside Street Angels and licensing.”
