Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says the company is working really hard on generative AI.
Jassy said during the company's Q2 earnings call on Thursday that "every single one" of Amazon's businesses had "multiple generative AI initiatives" going on. He called AI a "significant investment and focus" for the company, adding that the tech was going to be "at the heart of what we do."
The CEO said the projects ranged from internal operations to make the company more "cost-effective and streamlined" to work on products like Alexa.
Representatives for Amazon did not immediately respond to Insider's request for further details made outside normal working hours.
Amazon has been trying to keep pace with fellow tech peers when it comes to generative AI.
Since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT sparked mainstream interest in the technology, tech companies across the board have been keen to appear on top of the hype. Companies including OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft have been flooding the market with new AI-powered products.
Insider's Eugene Kim reported that Amazon set up a new group to work on the 'most ambitious' AI models within the company. Jassy has direct oversight of the new group, Insider previously reported citing leaked emails.
Internally, Amazon has been scrambling to respond to the AI boom. Managers have been asking staff for input on ways to incorporate AI-powered products like ChatGPT into everyday workflows or consumer-facing products, Insider reported.
