CT woman found shot in head outside her house. She had her baby with her.
A woman who was holding a baby was found with a gunshot wound to her head late Thursday outside her home, Woodbridge police said.
Police said the baby was not injured, the woman’s injuries were found to be non-life-threatening, and an arrest has been made in the shooting that took place just before 8 p.m. Thursday at a Raymond Street home.
Officers found the woman with the gunshot would, and her infant child, outside of the home and they both were taken away from the property, police said. The officers determined that the suspect who allegedly fire the gun remained inside the home and refused to exit it, police said.
With assistance from personnel from the Connecticut State Police, the New Haven Police Department, and the Seymour Police Department, the suspect exited the home a short time later and was taken into custody, police said.
The victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and her injuries “are deemed to be non-life-threatening,” police said. While the investigation is ongoing, the incident was an isolated one and there is no threat to the public, police said.
Raymond Sosa, 49, of Raymond Street, Woodbridge, is charged with second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine and negligent storage of a firearm, police said.
Sosa was detained in lieu of $100,000 bail and appeared at New Haven Superior Court Friday for arraignment, police said.
