If you've found inaccurate information on your credit report, CreditRepair.com can help clean up the mess by disputing errors and engaging with creditors to make sure bad information is no longer reported. However, while the company has a lengthy history of helping customers, it falls well short of the best credit repair companies.

There are several reasons why CreditRepair.com shouldn't be your first choice for credit repair.

CreditRepair.com Overview

CreditRepair.com is a subsidiary of Utah-based financial services company PGX Holdings, Inc., which also does business as Progexion. Progrexion also owns credit repair company Lexington Law.

Operating since 2012, CreditRepair.com claims to have helped nearly one million customers remove over five million collections from their credit reports. The company has physical offices in the Salt Lake City and Phoenix areas, but is available elsewhere online and by phone. CreditRepair.com works with customers in 38 states; service is presently unavailable in Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

CreditRepair.com has three different service plans with first-work and monthly fees ranging from $69.95 to $119.95. The company does not offer a service guarantee, but it does offer a free credit evaluation before you enroll. That evaluation includes your credit score, a summary of negative items on your credit report, and recommended solutions for how to remove them. You can also cancel service at any time by calling the toll-free number.

One concern about CreditRepair.com is the prevalence of negative reviews posted by customers online. The company has a Trustpilot rating of 2.7 out of five based on 625 reviews, of which only 77% are four stars or higher — that seems to fit with the company's claim that 76% of its members saw their credit scores improve by an average of 40 points over six months. Meanwhile 17% of Trustpilot ratings are two stars or lower. The Better Business Bureau gives CreditRepair.com a D rating, listing 79 complaints closed in the past three years, and customer reviews average 1.16 stars. Common complaints among reviews include a lack of results, a negative impact on credit scores, and hidden or unexpected charges.

Another concern is that CreditRepair.com was named as a defendant in a class action lawsuit filed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The suit seeks a judgment of $3.1 billion for alleged billing practices that violate federal law. Parent company Progexion has since filed for bankruptcy. While the outcome of these proceedings and the impact on customers is uncertain, it doesn't inspire confidence.

CreditRepair.com Plans

CreditRepair.com offers three levels of service at different price points. The most basic (and least expensive) is the Direct package, which includes up to six bureau challenges per cycle with Equifax and TransUnion, and three challenges per cycle with Experian. It also includes inquiry assists for a single credit bureau (Experian), up to three creditor interventions per month, quarterly credit score updates, and up to $25,000 of identity theft coverage. The Direct Package has a $69.95 monthly fee, as well as a $69.95 setup fee, also called a first-work fee.

The intermediate Standard package offers everything you get with the Direct package, as well as inquiry assists with all three credit bureaus, which enables you to dispute inaccurate inquiries across your full credit report. The Standard package has a $99.95 monthly fee, as well as a $99.95 setup fee.

Finally, the top-tier Advanced package adds monthly credit score updates, more bureau challenges (up to eight per cycle with Equifax and TransUnion, and three per cycle with Experian), more creditor interventions (up to six per month), cease and desist interventions, and up to $1,000,000 of identity theft coverage on top of the benefits you get from the Standard package. The Advanced package has a $119.95 monthly fee, as well as a $119.95 setup fee.

• Bureau challenges and inquiry assists — You can challenge a wide array of information on your credit report, including collections, late payments, charge-offs, repossessions, credit inquiries and more. While you can challenge this information yourself, enlisting the help of a credit repair agency may be worthwhile if you don't have the time, expertise, or confidence to handle it on your own.
• Goodwill / creditor interventions — if you have late payments on open accounts, CreditRepair.com can help you write to your creditor to have the late payment removed from your credit report with the understanding that you will make on-time payments moving forward.
• Cease and desist intervention — CreditRepair.com can get creditors off your back temporarily while you make a plan to pay off your debts. A cease and desist intervention doesn't reduce your debt, but it may give you room to breathe.
• Identity theft protection — Like other identity theft protection services, this protection can alert you of potential security risks, help you limit the damage caused by incidents of identity theft, and cover some costs related to restoring your identity.
• Member support — Customer support for CreditRepair.com is available by phone (800-232-6499) or online chat Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm MST. Support can answer questions even if you haven't already signed up.
• Credit education — CreditRepair.com offers extensive educational content and tools on the company's website and affiliated YouTube channel. You'll find articles covering a wide range of credit-related subjects, how-to guides, letter templates and more. This content is available at no charge whether or not you sign up.

How Much Does CreditRepair.com Cost?

Monthly fees for CreditRepair.com packages range from $69.95 to $119.95; each package also incurs a corresponding first-work fee of the same dollar amount. These rates are close to average for the credit repair industry, with some companies charging more and some charging less for comparable service.

CreditRepair.com offers a 50% discount on first-work fees to veterans and active military members. That same discount is also frequently available when you sign up through a referral, or when you enroll with a friend or family member. If you're considering signing up, check for available discounts first.

If you're dissatisfied with CreditRepair.com or no longer need the service, you can cancel your engagement agreement by calling 1-800-232-6499. However, there is no satisfaction guarantee, so you shouldn't expect a refund when you cancel.

How to Sign Up For CreditRepair.com

Before you enlist the help of a credit repair service, get copies of your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus. While these reports are normally only free once per year, you can request weekly free credit reports through the end of 2023.

With your credit reports in hand, you can check for inaccuracies that you want to dispute, such as misreported late payments, duplicate accounts, typos and more. You can address errors directly with the credit bureaus or pass them along to a credit repair service if you can't (or don't want to) do it yourself. However, keep in mind that you can only challenge information that's inaccurate, unfair, or unverified. Accurate data can't be wiped out just because it hurts your credit score, and you want it gone.

How CreditRepair.com Compares to Competitors

In terms of pricing and services offered, CreditRepair.com is in line with many of its competitors. That said, CreditRepair.com limits the number of credit disputes it offers while many of its competitors offer unlimited disputes. 

First, CreditRepair.com scores poorly in customer reviews, averaging only 2.7 stars out of five on Trustpilot, where top competitors average over 4.5 stars. Similarly, CreditRepair.com has a D rating from the Better Business Bureau, whereas top competitors have ratings of A- or better.

Second, CreditRepair.com does not offer a service guarantee of any kind. By comparison, top competitors like The Credit Pros, Credit Glory, and Ovation Credit Repair all offer guarantee or refund policies of some kind (each with various stipulations).

Finally, the CFPB lawsuit against CreditRepair.com and subsequent bankruptcy filing put the company's future in question, making it hard to buy in even without the other concerns listed above.

CreditRepair.com Lawsuits

In May of 2019, the CFPB filed a complaint in US district court against several companies in the credit repair industry, including Progexion and CreditRepair.com. The lawsuit alleged that the defendants requested and received upfront payment of fees for credit repair services in violation of the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), which restricts companies from charging fees for such services before providing customers with documentation that reflects the promised results have been achieved.

The CFPB further alleged that Progexion and its subsidiaries violated the TSR and the Consumer Financial Protection Act by making deceptive marketing representations, or by substantially assisting others in doing so.

In June of 2023, a federal judge ruled against Progexion, exposing the company to demands from federal regulators exceeding $3 billion. The company has since filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
