Coronation Street to change forever as Jenny Connor makes a tough decision about the Rovers Return
CORONATION Street is set to change forever as Jenny Connor made a huge decision about the Rovers Return.
The landlady – who is played by actress Sally Ann Matthews in the ITV soap – has been struggling to keep things afloat for months.
Tonight she finally broke down and admitted the pub was just weeks from closure.
Finding her regulars in Ed Bailey’s garden drinking cheap supermarket booze and playing darts outside was too much for Jenny.
She warned them that they would miss the backstreet boozer when it was gone.
And back at the pub she finally confessed to Daisy how bad things had gotten – and despite them pulling together to work out money-making ideas, Daisy told her she had to consider selling.
With the brewery running a buy back option, Jenny could off-load the pub and stay on as manager, only having to keep it in profit without the 40 per cent markup on booze from the brewery.
Making a huge decision, Jenny called Newton and Ridley’s boss Phillip.
But it wasn’t great news with the businessman telling her they were more interested in disposals than buybacks.
She told Glenda and Sean: “I managed to persuade him to come over here on Monday night and take a look at things.
“But would you buy this place? All that’s missing is the crow hopping all over the bar and a tolling bell.”
Viewers are devastated at the potential closure of the Rovers.
One wrote: “Oh Corrie, you can’t get rid of the Rovers.”
A second said: “We’d all miss the Rovers so much.”
Another added: “The Rovers can’t close! There’s no Coronation Street without The Rovers.”
