A battle is brewing between private Indian telcos Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea on the one hand and global companies such as Amazon operating in the country on the other over the definition of international SMS and telecom traffic. US e-commerce giant Amazon contends that there is a need to define international SMS because global messaging rates are under forbearance and telcos can exploit the lack of a definition to charge higher rates.
