Just three months earlier, the county's movers and shakers had hailed the opening of the American online giant's vast warehouse in Rugeley as the bold new future. For a town still reeling from the closure of Lea Hall Colliery some 21 years earlier, it seemed to be just what the area needed. Local leaders said it was a shot in the arm for Rugeley's economy as hundreds upon hundreds of new jobs were created. Estate agents branded the town one of Britain's top property hotspots.
