Rohit Sharma Gives Fitness Update Of Shreyas Iyer, Confirms World Cup Selection On Cards
INDIAN cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has given a huge update on Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the World Cup. Rohit confirmed that Shreyas Iyer is on his way to full recovery and he is hopeful that the batter will be available for the ODI World Cup.
Indian team has been marred by a string of injuries to key players. The likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah have missed a large chunk of the team’s matches this year owing to injuries.
“Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for World Cup,” said Rohit Sharma.
Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have started practicing in the nets. A senior BCCI official also gave an update about the fitness of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, saying that the players are on the way to recovery and may even make it to the Asia Cup squad.
“We are very sure that both of them will be fit for World Cup. They may very well be fit by the time Asia Cup begins. But we won’t be rushing them. Rahul should be fine in three weeks’ time. As for Shreyas, we will know more in the next two days,” A BCCI official said to InsideSports.
Asia Cup Squad Likely By Monday
Meanwhile, the BCCI is likely to announce the India squad for the Asia Cup by Monday. The Board is waiting for a fitness report of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who are set to undergo a fitness test this week. Once the report is out, the BCCI will announce the squad for the Asia Cup.
“We are waiting for a couple of injury updates. KL and Shreyas are 80% fit but aren’t yet match-fit. We expect an assessment report by Saturday. Once we have more clarity, the squad will be announced,” said the BCCI official.
