Coronation Street fans demand ‘useless’ character is axed – and they want them murdered
CORONATION Street fans call for long-serving character to be axed, after spending half their life on the soap.
ITV viewers claim that police officer Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) is a “useless” character and should be killed off.
Craig has had a number of major storylines from his OCD diagnosis to his journey to becoming a police officer.
He has also been in relationships with Bethany Platt and Faye Windass.
Craig first appeared on Coronation Street at just 12 years old in 2011 as the son of Beth Sutherland and Darryl Parkins.
However, despite growing up on the show, fans think the character has been exhausted and should be axed.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “He was OK when he was an awkward kid with a rat, but he is completely useless as an adult character.
“He’s shoehorned into every police plot (of which there are many) and mostly stands around looking gormless.”
Another agreed: “Yep. Terrible character. Can’t understand why they didn’t write him out along with the equally tedious Faye.
“I suppose it’s useful having a police character as a regular with so many crime related stories. Although it beggars belief that he gets involved with every single case.”
This comes after the Colson recently celebrated a special milestone on social media.
He shared a throwback snap of his character Craig cradling some biscuits.
He captioned: “12 years of my pal Craig Tinker #TINKS”. In a comment, the actor added: “That’s half of my life by way.”
Co-stars and fans flooded to the comments section to congratulate Colson on his work anniversary.
Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland, commented: “It’s a pleasure to work with you mate.”
Colson responded: “Likewise my friend.”
Faye Windass actress Ellie Leach commented: “Craigy” with a red heart emoji.
Colson jokingly replied: “He’s still sat sulking in the salon flat.”
David Platt actor Jack P. Shepherd added: “Iconic.”
Viewers have also witnessed Colson’s incredible weight loss journey during his time on Corrie, after shedding 10 stone.
The actor has previously told the ECHO about the moment he decided to completely overhaul his lifestyle.
He said: “I made changes before the lockdown but when it hit, all work stopped and it’s the first time ever that Corrie has actually stopped. I was in a flat in Media City and I went back to live with my parents.
“It was the first time since I was 12 that I didn’t have a job and didn’t have anything to do so I kind of thought to myself ‘what’s important to me’ and ‘what do I want from life’.
“That’s kind of where I decided to put myself forward and start this fitness journey.”
Colson regularly shares updates on Instagram of his running journey and received strong support from fans when he announced his plans to run a marathon.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
