I’m a professional dry cleaner but hate doing laundry – here are my fIve tips to make it quick and easy
A DRY cleaner has shared his top tips on how to make laundry day 10 times easier.
Taking to social media, Zachary Pozniak shared a clip of himself going through all the essential steps people should take to make laundry faster.
“Do you hate laundry?” he first asked while holding up a lint roller as a microphone. “Because I sure do, and I’m a fricking dry cleaner!
“So I’m going to give you a few tips on how I do laundry so it’s less of a drag for you.”
After joking about his lint roller-microphone hybrid, he said: “My favourite laundry move of all time is to hang my stain removing spray right off of my hamper.
“That’s because you got a stain on your garment, throw it in the hamper and then spray it down. The longer this stuff sits on the stain, the better it’s going to work.”
It means you end up saving yourself a trip to the laundry room and the product works its magic until wash day, where your clothes will come out stain-free.
“It’s amazing, trust me on this one,” he added.
His second tip was to separate loads by their weight and colours.
He explained: “So heavyweight garments like bedding and towels in one pile. T-shirts, undergarments, gym clothes in another pile.”
TikTok user @jeeves_ny explained that the reason behind this method of washing clothes is due to the different speeds at which they tend to dry.
His third tip was to wash everything with cold water and minimal detergent as most of your clothes aren’t “that dirty”.
“So cold water with a really good detergent is going to do an excellent job,” he said. “And yes, hot water is going to do a better job cleaning your clothing, but you should really only be reserving it for really smelly or stained loads.”
He went on to tell viewers to think of hot water as “power washing” as while it’s very effective, it’s not something you should do all the time.
Next, he said mesh bags are incredible and as a result of using them, he’s managed to keep hold of all of his socks.
“Also, anything delicate should go in here,” he added. “Think cashmere, sweaters, etc.”
His final tip was to use wool dryer balls, which do a “great job of keeping your dryer load spaced out so they dry pretty evenly”.
He added that you can add a drop of essential oil to them to give more of a scent.
People were quick to comment as one person wrote: “When I take off my socks they go straight into a mesh bag. Keeps them in one place. I get the bags from dollartree & use a wire hanger to hold em up”.
Another joked: “I take the subway in NYC, I promise our clothes are that dirty lol”.
A third posted: “my least favorite part is separating colors i never know what to separate”.
While a fourth added: “I mostly do everything you said, except, I wash my non-delicate undergarments, towels, and sheets in hot water.”
