The Chase’s Mark Labbett lifts lid on The Chase earnings – admitting ITV pay him ‘like a Premier League footballer’
THE Chase’s Mark Labbett has opened up about his earnings on the ITV gameshow – as he revealed they pay him “like a Premier League footballer”.
Since 2009, the TV personality has been a regular on the popular quiz programme.
Now, Mark has lifted the lid on his earnings from The Chase – and it’s surprising.
Mark quipped that The Chase cast members “earn like Premier League footballers” while filming Beat The Chasers.
In the spin-off programme, contestants compete in a series of general knowledge challenges against not just one, but all of the Chasers.
Unlike The Chase, where just one quizzer takes on a group of players, all six Chasers feature in every episode.
Mark and his co-stars, Anne Hegerty, Darragh Ennis, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, and Jenny Ryan, are paid a flat sum per episode.
As a result, when the week-long series Beat The Chasers airs, the TV stars earn extra money.
Mark told the Daily Star about filming the spin-off series at the National Reality TV Awards: “That’s the week we earn like Premier League footballs, so of course I’ll do it.”
He continued: “If I could get away with it I’d purge half of them because the fewer Chasers there are, the more money I get.”
The Chaser then explained how much of a struggle it is to earn a decent amount of money when film in Australia.
“They’ve moved up to eight chasers and the problem is they are now in a horrible trap that they can’t make a full-time living off it,” he revealed.
He added: “They are spreading it so thin some of the Chasers are starting to think ‘I can’t do this unless you give me a certain number of shows a year.”
Mark admitted how “lucky” he and his co-stars are that they get “extra curricular gigs” in England compared to Australia where they get “next to nothing”.
The Chase is available to watch weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
