I sold my old Ikea draws for double what I paid for them thanks to a simple DIY hack – here’s how you can to
A DIY whizz has revealed how she transformed her old Ikea drawers and made a huge profit on them.
Jessica, who posts on Instagram as @evergreenrestorations, showed off the bargain revamp, leaving people stunned.
She had the Ikea drawers for over five years before she decided to spruce them up.
Originally, she paid $399 (£313) for the drawers, but thought she could sell them for more than that.
Jessica asked her Instagram followers if they would pay more than the original price for the drawers if they were customised, and surprisingly a lot said they would.
“I was upfront in my listing so that potential buyers knew that this was an IKEA dresser, and yet I had DOZENS of messages about this dresser! It sold in one hour,” she said.
To make the basic dresser look more posh she added wooden appliques onto each drawer.
She nabbed them from a site called Overlays, and since they’re made especially for Ikea furniture they fit perfectly.
“Once they arrive all you need is wood glue to secure them, I made sure I had the spacing right and then I just waited a few hours for them to dry,” she explained.
Then to finish it all off she painted the drawers a trendy sage green colour and added some new brass handles.
Jessica snapped the handles up from Amazon, rather than spending more on ones from an interior shop.
“This was truly one of the easiest projects I’ve done,” she raved.
After it was finished she sold it for $700 (£549) which wasn’t too shabby considering how easy the project was.
In fact, other DIY fans praised her work and said they want to try something similar.
One said: “Just amazing transformation a huge applause great job and it looks so expensive and posh look.”
A second wrote: “Looks so good, well done to you.”
