BBC bosses prepare for HUGE change to Strictly costume rules ahead of this year’s series
STRICTLY Come Dancing 2023 hopeful Layton Williams is set to be the most envelope pushing contestant to date.
The Sun can reveal the West End star, 28, has secretly been measured up by BBC bosses for dresses as well as trousers and shirts.
Layton, who stars in comedy Bad Education, is tipped to do well in the competition thanks to his previous dance training.
A source said: “Layton has told BBC bosses he wants to be his authentic self while on the show – which includes wearing dresses should he see fit.
“Of course they agreed and the costume department are also measuring him up for them as well as other sparkling looks.
“They see it as a total non-issue but are aware it could raise a few eyebrows in homes up and down the UK.
“The bottom line is they want all the contestants to be comfortable during their routines and personal preferences are always taken into account.”
After revealing he is on the official Strictly line-up, Layton told fans: “Absolutely buzzing to confirm that I will be taking part in THE most iconic dance competition in the UK!”
During an appearance on Radio 2, Layton, whose acting credits include the title role in Billy Elliot and Everyone’s Talking About Jamie, told Richie Anderson he hopes to be in a same-sex partnership.
The performer said: “I’m happy so long as it’s a guy.
“I want to dance with a man. I can’t wait to get flung around and wear some glittery costumes.”
In 2020 Strictly made history by including their first same-sex pairing.
Team GB ace Nicola Adams was paired with Katya Jones in 2020.
Then in 2021 The Great British Bake Off star John Whaite was paired with Johannes Radebe – making it all the way to the show’s final.
Last year the show included two same-sex couples, comedian Jayde Adams was partnered up with Karen Hauer.
Richie Anderson was paired with Giovanni Pernice.
