Arielle Free reveals return to Radio 1 after being pulled off air and suspended
RADIO 1 DJ Arielle Free is back on the airwaves today after being suspended last month during a chaotic Ibiza broadcast.
The 36-year-old, who joined the Beeb in 2019, is presenting a two hour slot this evening – after her on-air bust up with Charlie Hedges.
Posting for the first time after she was pulled off air, Arielle didn’t address the scandal.
Instead she told fans: “Tonight on your radio its all things chilled in the run up to tomorrows Scottish Highers, advanced highers and national 5’s exam results. A time I remember all too well
“The track selection tonight is designed to help take your mind away from how ever you may be feeling right now. So expect some soul soothers, mood boosters and loads more yumminess.
“Two whole hours of one big musical hug. Come join!”
Her followers rushed to welcome her back, with one person commenting: “Yas, you’re back queen.”
Another wrote: “So glad you’re back on”, while someone else added: “Missed you…glad your back.”
The incident occurred when the former Love Island: The Morning After podcast host joined Radio 1‘s Dance Anthem host Charlie on her show as a guest on July 29 in the party hot spot of Ibiza.
Arielle decided to tell Charlie what she thought of her show.
She said: “Can I be honest with you Charlie?… I expected better of you… I don’t like this song.”
“Oh really?,” Charlie replied. Arielle continued: “I hate it!”
Charlie butted in, saying in reply: “Sorry I’m taking your mic down, it’s my show Arielle, have some respect please.
“See you later. Get out of here.”
A spokesperson for Radio 1 said at the time: “Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously.”
