Family of 64-year-old Hartford woman fatally shot in domestic incident in court as suspect is appointed public defender
A Hartford man charged with fatally shooting a 64-year-old woman while she was on the phone with 911 last month appeared in court on Wednesday in Hartford.
Lance Logan, who is charged with murder in the death of Carolyn Williams, appeared before Judge David P. Gold in Hartford Superior Court Monday morning and was appointed a public defender.
Logan is being held in lieu of a $3 million bond and was brought into court from the Hartford Correctional Center, wearing a tan prison-issue outfit with shackles around his wrists and ankles. He is facing charges of murder, second-degree assault, violation of a protective order and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver after allegedly shooting Williams in her home on Oakland Terrace on July 17, records show.
As he was led out of the courtroom, a man stood up and shouted profanities at him, prompting the judge to ask the man to leave.
Williams’ son and niece were also in the courtroom for Logan’s hearing. Her son, Adam Williams, was home when Logan allegedly attacked his mother. He told police he heard a gunshot ring out just after he left the house to get help, records show.

Police were called to William’s home about 8:09 p.m. on July 17 for a domestic incident. Williams called 911 and told dispatchers that Logan had allegedly kicked down her bedroom door and hit her and that he had a sawed-off shotgun, court records show.
Police were on their way to the home when she was shot. When officers arrived, Logan was sitting on the couch in the living room, a sawed-off shotgun and one spent shell casing sitting on the coffee table beside him, police said.
Williams’ family said that she was a dedicated mother who worked both at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and at the Arc of The Farmington Valley, providing direct care to people with special needs.
Logan is scheduled to appear in Hartford next on Sept. 19, court officials said.
