Union Council chairman among 7 dead in blast in Pakistan’s Balochistan
At least seven people, including a union council chairman, were killed in a bomb blast in the Panjgur district of Balochistan province, Pakistan, on Monday night, local media outlets reported.
Amjad Somro, the deputy commissioner of Panjgur, told Dawn that miscreants had planted a remote explosive device to go off in a car carrying Balgatar UC Chairman Ishtiaq Yaqoob and others as they left a wedding ceremony.
He said the explosive detonated as the vehicle approached Chakar Bazar in the Balgatar area, claiming lives.
“The victims were going in a vehicle for a wedding party when targeted,” Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove confirmed.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Security personnel and organizations with government support have already been the targets of dozens of lethal attacks in the area.
The levies official said that the father of Ishaq Balgatri, Yakub Balgatri, and ten associates were also killed in the same region in September 2014. The attack was claimed by the banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF).
Recently, the militants have increased their attacks, targeting police officers, government personnel and ordinary people across Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab provinces.
