Iran’s Foreign Minister to visit Saudi Arabia on Thursday
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian will visit Saudi Arabia on Thursday, Iran state TV has reported.
In June, a significant diplomatic milestone was achieved as Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan embarked on his inaugural visit to Tehran, marking a significant step following the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic in March.
This meeting between Saudi and Iranian officials held immense significance, reflecting the willingness of both nations to engage in dialogue and foster improved relations on the international stage.
In March, Iran and Saudi Arabia reached an agreement facilitated by China to resolve a diplomatic dispute and restore relations. This accord marked the end of years of hostility threatening regional stability in the Gulf, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.
This deal involves mutually reopening embassies and consulates within each other’s territories. The two countries have also committed to finally implementing the security and economic cooperation agreements established over two decades ago.
In 2016, Saudi Arabia severed its relations with Iran after protesters attacked its embassy in Tehran.
This was in response to Riyadh’s implementation of the death penalty against a prominent
Shiite cleric.
