Premier League cult hero Troy Deeney, 35, completes shock free transfer move and will have TWO jobs
TROY DEENEY has signed for Forest Green Rovers as a player-coach.
The former Watford and Birmingham striker will move down to League Two in his new role.
Upon accepting the gig, Deeney said: “It’s really exciting to be here. I came to the game on Tuesday and got a real sense of what the club is all about.
“I’ve always kept an eye on Forest Green anyway and have great admiration for the Chairman and what the club stands for.”
“It’s about the next 10 years, not the next 10 months. This is the start of a new journey and I’m really excited.”
Deeney last played in League Two for Walsall in the 2006-07 season.
He played 134 times for the Saddlers, scoring 27 times.
The bustling forward moved to Watford in 2010, going on to net 140 goals across 11 years with the Hornets.
In 2021 he switched to his boyhood club Birmingham City, playing two seasons at St Andrew’s before being released.
In addition to his playing roles, Deeney has been obtaining his Uefa A-License coaching badge.
Forest Green are managed by David Horseman, who worked at Watford during Deeney’s time at Vicarage Road.
The striker will work as part of Horseman and assistant boss Louis Carey’s staff, in addition to playing.
