Tottenham 2 Man Utd 0: Sarr and Lisandro own goal hand brilliant Spurs deserved win over lacklustre Red Devils
TOTTENHAM produced a stunning display to seal Ange Postecoglou’s first win in charge.
In a frantic North London clash with Manchester United featuring plenty of chances, Sarr’s 49th minute effort followed by Lisandro Martinez’s late own goal proved to be decisive.
Erik ten Hag will feel his side should have taken the lead in the 36th minute, when Bruno Fernandes somehow ballooned a free header over the bar.
But Spurs too could easily have gone in front during a frenetic open period, coming closest when Pedro Porro thwacked a shot against the bar.
It didn’t take long for the home side to break the deadlock in the second 45, with Pape Matar Sarr firing home his first goal for the club from close range.
Sarr’s strike prompted pandemonium, but Antony nearly silenced the raucous Spurs fans immediately, but he could only find the post with his curling shot.
Both teams continued to press in what was a frantic contest, with Spurs beginning to take control around the hour mark.
Postecoglou then made a series of defensive-minded substitutions, with Ben Davies, Ivan Perisic and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg being introduced.
And Spurs managed the game brilliantly, with Lisandro Martinez’s late own goal sealing the three points.
