Phillies Injury Updates: 2 key Phillies to return from injured list soon

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

Taijuan Walker (arm fatigue): The Phillies are skipping Walker’s spot in the rotation. He will throw a bullpen session on Saturday, Aug. 19 in Washington. He could “possibly” start on Tuesday against the Giants.

Ranger Suárez (right hamstring soreness): Suárez will not make his next scheduled start on Sunday, Aug. 20 against the Nationals. The Phillies will know more about Suárez’s status regarding his next outing on Saturday.

• Jose Alvarado (left elbow inflammation)
• Status: 15-day injured list — Could be back for Giants series
• The Phillies placed Alvarado on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to July 7. It’s the second stint on the IL this season for the hard-throwing reliever, who missed over a month earlier this campaign as he dealt with inflammation in the same elbow.
• Alvarado struck out two and threw 18 pitches for Lehigh Valley on Friday night. Manager Rob Thomson said the velocity was “really good.” The Phillies are hoping to get Alvarado two days of rest before activating him ahead of the Giants series. (Last Updated on Aug. 19) — Destiny Lugardo

• Cristian Pache (right elbow irritation)
• Status: 10-day injured list — Could be back within the next 10-days
• Pache underwent a procedure to remove a screw from his right elbow on July 17.
• Pache is currently on rehab assignment with Lehigh Valley. The Phillies are keeping him in the minors for a little bit longer as they prefer to get him more at-bats and reps in the corner outfield spots with the emergence of Johan Rojas. His minor league rehab assignment expires on Aug. 28, so if he remains healthy, he will be activated by that day.

• Brandon Marsh (left knee bruise)
• Status: 10-day injured list — Could be activated on Aug. 19
• Marsh is headed to the injured list with a left knee bruise that he sustained on Aug. 5 in a failed attempt to make a catch against the center field wall.
• Marsh played center field for Lehigh Valley on Friday night. He was taken out of the game early because he had “a lot of activity.” He could be activated from the IL on Saturday, Aug. 19. (Last Updated Aug. 19) — Destiny Lugardo

• Rhys Hoskins (torn left ACL)
• Status: 60-day injured list — Likely out for regular season
• The Phillies first baseman underwent successful surgery the morning of Thursday, March 30.
• While Thomson cautioned that he’s “not a doctor,” he did acknowledge that Hoskins is “ahead of where I thought he would be at this time.” Hoskins is doing short sprints and light running. He could “possibly” begin swinging a bat in the next week or 10 days, Thomson added. He’s already doing his throwing program. Thomson estimated that Hoskins would need “two to three weeks of at-bats,” before returning to the Phillies. This isn’t to say he’s close to returning. He’s not. But the possible scenario of Hoskins rejoining the Phillies for a playoff run is at least still in play. (Last Updated on July 26) — Tim Kelly

• Status: Full season MiLB injured list — Likely out until 2025
• Painter underwent successful Tommy John surgery on July 25, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The procedure comes with an estimated 15-18 month recovery timeline. (Last Updated July 26) — Tim Kelly
