Trevis Gipson Trade Possibilities That Would Make Sense
News broke on Saturday that defensive end Trevis Gipson has requested permission to seek a trade to a new team from the Chicago Bears. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported it was granted. That means he has the next few days to find a taker. Pass rushers almost always have a market. The Bears aren’t hard-pressed to do anything. They may decide to cut the former 5th round pick, but they can also hang onto him for the time being. His contract is affordable, and they need the depth.
That said, multiple teams likely make sense as landing spots for one reason or another. As always, it comes down to finding a fair deal both sides can be happy with. Here are four options that make sense for Gipson and the Bears.
Trevis Gipson to the Eagles for DE Derek Barnett and a 6th in 2025
Philadelphia isn’t hurting for pass rushers, but they love to stockpile them. One thing they have is new defensive coordinator Sean Desai. He got seven sacks out of Gipson in 2021. The connection is easy to make. There are rumblings that Barnett is on the roster bubble. Being on a loaded roster and coming off a torn ACL last season likely has something to do with that. His salary cap number is affordable, though, and he’s still only 27 years old. That, along with a draft pick, makes this a trade the Bears can accept. Barnett isn’t a starter, but he’s proven to be a capable rotational piece.
Gipson and a 5th round pick to the Cardinals for WR Rondale Moore
Adding weapons is never a bad idea. It’s evident Arizona is in firesale mode, shipping out players from the previous regime in exchange for draft picks. They don’t have many pass rush options. Trevis Gipson would help with that. Adding the 5th round pick should be enough to pry the dynamic Moore away from the Cardinals. The receiver is a versatile weapon in the passing game, and he also brings experience as a returner to the table. Luke Getsy can use him as a utility option in several ways.
Gipson to the Falcons for a 5th round pick
Ryan Pace drafted Gipson in the 5th round three years ago. He was a big believer in the Tulsa product. Now the former Bears GM is high in the Falcons front office. Atlanta runs a 3-4 defense and needs pass rush help quite a bit. Gipson is a southern kid. This move would make sense for both parties. Chicago gets a solid draft pick in the deal, improving their inventory for 2024 to eight picks in the first five rounds. Poles would love that kind of flexibility, even if the Bears feel the pinch in the short term.
Gipson to the Rams for a 5th round pick
When your two best edge options are Byron Young and Michael Hoecht, you know you might be in for a tough year. The Rams are a long way from when they had Leonard Floyd and Von Miller. They’re trying to retool around Aaron Donald while they still can. Gipson is more proven than anybody they have, is cheap against the salary cap, and won’t cost a high draft choice to acquire. GM Les Snead hasn’t been shy about making deals. L.A. could end up being bad again this year, so that 5th round pick may prove valuable.
