The latest Courtside Report for NBA 2K24 provides an insight into the MyPLAYER Builder and Badges in this year’s game. There have been some notable changes in both areas in NBA 2K24 Next Gen, revamping the way that MyPLAYERs are created for online and offline play alike. Changes to Badges are also applicable to MyTEAM.
There will be 24 new Badges this year while a few others have been removed, for a total of 77. Badges have also been split into four tiers, with each Badge having its own attribute requirements to be unlocked. This year, Badge levels will be determined by how frequently they’re used. Badges that are used often will trend towards the level that matches your play, while seldom-used Badges will trend downwards, though won’t drop below Bronze. Badge Perks will also provide boosts to progression.
In addition to completely customised builds, this year’s MyPLAYER will also provide templates based on NBA players for gamers who’d prefer a quick start. The naming system has also been improved so that builds are described more accurately, and there’s apparently been more focus on preventing meta builds that are OP.
I’ve summarised the information from the NBA 2K24 MyPLAYER Builder & Badges Courtside Report below, but as always, I recommend reading the original article for the full scoop. Dee and I will be discussing the latest NBA 2K24 news on the next NLSC Podcast, but in the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum!
NBA 2K24 MyPLAYER Builder & Badges Courtside Report Summary
The new Badge system is intended to build upon the strengths of your style of play.
Badges have been added, removed, or tweaked, in an effort to balance the gameplay. There are 24 new Badges, and 77 Badges in total across MyCAREER and MyTEAM.
This year’s MyPLAYER Builder allows you to create a custom build from scratch, or choose a template based on an NBA player. The templates can also be a starting point for further customisation if you’d prefer.
As mentioned in the gameplay blog, Takeovers are no longer part of MyPLAYER builds, and are instead chosen as desired when the Takeover meters are filled.
Badges have been split into four tiers: S-, A-, B-, and C-, with S-Tier Badges being the best. The player’s height still determines the Tier for each Badge, and Badges still have their own unique attribute requirements to unlock.
More emphasis has been placed on preventing meta builds. Max heights/weights for each position have been updated, along with the attribute caps for various size combinations.
The Archetype naming system has been revamped to ensure that the names of builds are as descriptive as possible.
Badge levels are determined by usage, i.e. how often they’re firing off in the game. Frequent usage and success with a Badge will see it trend upwards, while seldom-used Badges will trend downwards. However, Badge levels will never drop below Bronze once they’re equipped. Regaining levels will also take less time than attaining them in the first place.
C-Tier Badges will be easier to gain and keep, while higher tier Badges will be harder to gain and quicker to lose.
Certain Badges are protected from declining in games where they can’t possibly be used because of the format. Badge progression can also be made at the Team Practice Facility, the Gatorade Training Facility, and Chris Brickley’s Gym.
Badge Perks are prizes that grant benefits such as increasing progression, slowing down progression, and earning a bigger boost to progression if you win a game or finish with a high Teammate Grade. A Badge can only have one perk applied at a time, and there are four slots per Perk, one for each Badge tier.
Performance Multipliers are prizes that benefit all of your currently-equipped Badges. A prize called Floor Setters also prevents Badges from dropping below a certain level (Silver or Gold, depending on the slot), and is earned via Season XP.
