Phillies Injury Updates: Suárez nearing return, latest on Rhys Hoskins

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

• Ranger Suárez (right hamstring strain)
• Status: 15-day injured list
• The Phillies placed Suárez on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain on Saturday, Aug. 19. Andrew Bellatti was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
• Suárez is scheduled to throw live batting practice on Monday, Aug. 28. Rob Thomson believes he does not need a minor league rehab assignment, but says Suárez will have a lower pitch count in his next start. The Phillies could add Suárez back to the active roster on Sept. 1 when rosters expand, but that does not mean he will make his next start on Sept. 1. When Suárez comes back, the Phillies plan on going back to a six-man rotation until at least the Sept. 11 doubleheader against the Braves. (Last Updated Aug. 27) –Destiny Lugardo

• Rhys Hoskins (torn left ACL)
• Status: 60-day injured list — Likely out for regular season
• The Phillies first baseman underwent successful left ACL reconstruction surgery the morning of Thursday, March 30.
• In a recent conversation with Phillies Nation, Hoskins said he was “on track” to push for a return for the playoffs. He is running two out of every three days and hitting off a tee. The real test will come in the next few weeks when the trainers will look to see if Hoskins can change directions on his surgically-repaired knee.
• Thomson painted a less optimistic picture when asked about Hoskins’ recovery from ACL surgery. The Phillies manager, when asked if Hoskins could return this season, said “It’s going to be tough because it’s been kind of a slow-moving timeframe here lately. It’s going to be difficult, but we’re still working on it.” Thomson said there have been a couple of times where Hoskins’ knee has bothered him. • Cristian Pache (right elbow irritation)
• Status: 10-day injured list
• Pache underwent a procedure to remove a screw from his right elbow on July 17.
• The Phillies are pausing Cristian Pache’s rehab assignment. He’ll stay with the Phillies until at least the end of the St. Louis series due to some knee swelling. He is dealing with hip tightness that has turned into knee soreness, according to Thomson. (Last Updated Aug. 25) — Destiny Lugardo

• Andrew Painter (right UCL sprain) 
• Status: Full season MiLB injured list — Likely out until 2025
• Painter underwent successful Tommy John surgery on July 25, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The procedure comes with an estimated 15-18 month recovery timeline. (Last Updated July 26) — Tim Kelly
