I’m an interior designer – the four common mistakes to avoid in your bedroom if you don’t want it to look tacky
YOU can spend as much money as you like decorating your bedroom, but if you’re still making these mistakes it will still look cheap and tacky, at least according to this interior designer.
Phoenix Grey took to TikTok to explain why certain trends are a big no-no, and what you should do instead.
First up, you should be adding more to your bed than just your duvet and pillows, according to the pro.
In fact, Phoenix says it’s “a major red flag.”
So, what should you do instead? Throw cushions are a good place to start, as well as a throw.
Your bed should look cosy and inviting so you actually look forward to curling up at night.
“Bring in extra elements to create that cloud effect, it’s much more inviting than your typical hotel bed,” he said.
You might want to rethink the placement of your bed as well, since putting it in the wrong spot can throw off the rest of the room.
The pro explained: “The bed is typically the focal point in any room and it sets the tone for the entire space.”
Beds that are shoved against a window or into a dark corner can make the room look cheap and badly planned out.
Ideally, the bed should be centred in the room, but if there isn’t space for that you can still “create balance with asymmetry,” Phoenix said.
And whatever you do, don’t overcrowd the room with furtniture.
“Bedrooms can be very chaotic and oversized furniture pieces really throw off the proportion of the room itself,” he noted.
Following the ‘less is more’ rule will make your bedroom look way more luxurious, as well as make it appear larger.
And finally – wash your bedding more than just once a month.
Fresh, clean sheets will not only make your feel better but will make your bedroom smell better.
