We have a unique feature in our kitchen – it was innovative in 1959, the last owner left us everything we need to use it
A DIY and retro enthusiast showed off the unique feature in her kitchen from the 1950s.
She said it was innovative for the time, but people are thrilled to see that it’s still perfectly functional today.
Brooklyn (@superretrogal) shared the feature with over 15,000 TikTok followers.
She panned her camera over a built-in metal panel installed on her kitchen countertop.
“People always ask what that thing is on my kitchen counter,” she said.
She rotated one of the circular inserts on the panel, pulled it out, and twisted it in an attachment.
Next, she placed a bowl over and a mixer attachment to reveal a vintage built-in mixer.
The attachment spun on its own, perfect for baking with flour and easy cooking.
“It’s a built-in mixer original from when the house was built in 1959!” she said.
She defended the unique feature: “Innovative in 1959,” she joked.
People took to the comments to share their thoughts on the mixer.
Some shared their own stories of the unique features in their retro homes, including one woman who had the same mixer.
“We have one as well in my husband’s grandparent’s home,” she said.
“There is also a built-in toaster in the wall above the counter, which is pretty scary and unplugged.”
