Man wielding knife shot dead by police in Northridge
A man in his 20s was shot and killed by police in Northridge on Sunday morning after he charged at officers with a knife, police reported.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11:18 a.m. in the 18400 block of West Malden Street, near Canby Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Prior to the shooting, patrol officers spoke to the man, who was standing outside the stairwell of an apartment complex before he charged toward police with the weapon, LAPD said in a statement. Details on how many officers were involved in the shooting were unavailable.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the area and pronounced the man dead at the scene. A knife was also recovered from the scene, authorities said.
Officials said streets in the area of Malden and Canby will remain closed for several hours.
