Managerial turnover - a bit of context
0
On a human level its not nice to see people losing their jobs. As far as being beneficial to the club, a rapid turnover is not usually a good idea. Yes, you do have the occasional gaffer who has an immediate impact but in the main I would guess that most really become successful after a couple of years in post when a team truly becomes their own.
I would certainly like Hibs to have a bit of stability/success with a leader in place for 4/5 seasons.
However, lets not be fooled by the narrative punted by many that this is an issue particular to Hibernian. Poisoned chalice, revolving door, hire and fire, trigger happy, directionless and adrift. The sort of guff spouted about us in the press in particular.
If year zero began after us winning the Cup. Then starting from the 2016/17 season gives not too long, or too short a period of time but does supply a decent sample group for context. It covers the seven year itch as we a month or so into the 8th season.
So, only counting permanent appointments, not caretakers, since the 16/17 season Hibs have had 5 gaffers (about to hire our 6th). How does this compare with the other 11 in the league (and also the most recently relegated).
St Johnstone- 3
Celtc - 4 (counting Rodgers twice)
Aberdeen - 4
Livingston - 4
Motherwell - 5
Ross County - 5
St Mirren - 6
derStickies - 6
Hertz - 6 (counting Neilson twice) (7 if you count Naeclass and McAvoy as 2 separate appointments)
Dundee - 7
Kilmarnock - 7
Dundee United - 8
Its not ideal but lets not have our detractors con us into believing that this is an issue peculiar or particular to Hibernian.
