Police officers on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27, broke up a fight among an estimated 1,000 juveniles at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance.
Torrance police Sgt. Ron Salary said at least one shot was fired but no injuries to the juveniles or the officers who scattered the crowd were reported. He said police have not determined why so many juveniles showed up or why they fought.

Police were called to the mall at about 4 p.m. because the juveniles were fighting among themselves. While officers were en route, they learned that one witness reported that someone had fired a gun.
Because of the size of the crowd, Torrance police asked for assistance from nearby agencies. Among those assisting were officers with the Gardena, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach and Los Angeles police departments as well as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies.
The surrounding businesses were not evacuated, but juveniles were removed from them, Salary said.
Police were still at the mall at 7:30 p.m. By around that time, no arrests had been reported but police were still removing juveniles from the area.
Restaurants at the mall closed early.
Police cleared the scene by 9:20 p.m., the city said on social media.
