MAP: Will Hurricane Idalia hit Gainesville and the University of Florida?

Gainesville and the campus of the University of Florida are in the potential forecast cone of Hurricane Idalia, which is expected to strengthen into a major Category 3 hurricane and approach the Florida coast early Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane and storm surge watches are in effect along most of the west coast. Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for Alachua County and 45 others. The University of Florida is posting updates on its website here.
