The 30-year-old Belgian joined Chelsea on a big-money move in the summer of 2021 but has failed to justify his price tag.

Chelsea want to offload Lukuku and the centre forward is also interested in leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

Despite having takers in Italy in the form of Inter Milan and Juventus, however, a move failed to materialise.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma are in the market for a striker and they are willing to take Lukaku on loan.

The Belgian is interested in a move to Rome and has agreed to take a pay cut to join the Italian side.

However, upon Lukaku’s return to London today, Chelsea have asked him to take a further wage cut over the duration of his contract.

Now it remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old Belgian will accept a further pay cut to facilitate a move.
