Republican group targets Trump over Georgia indictment
An anti-Trump Republican group is targeting the former president over his indictment in Georgia, where he was charged with 13 counts related to efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the state.
The Republican Accountability Project announced Sunday that it will be launching a six-figure ad campaign focusing on the Fulton County election case, which marked Trump’s fourth indictment this year.
The campaign, dubbed the “Trump Rap Sheet,” will feature 60-second ads on Fox News all week in Phoenix, Milwaukee and Atlanta areas.
"When Donald Trump was president, he thought it didn't matter how many laws and norms he broke,” the voiceover says in the ad. “He thought it didn't matter how many lies he told the American people, and it seemed like he could get away with anything.”
The ad features footage from Trump’s time in office, his recent arraignments and scenes from the Jan. 6, 2021 attacks on the Capitol. The ad says that during his presidency, many people began to believe that “nothing matters.”
“But this wasn't true. Because in America, the rule of law still matters. And that's why Donald Trump has been charged with nine one felonies in four separate cases for attempting to steal an election, falsifying business records and mishandling classified information,” the ad says.
“We've seen what happens when people start believing nothing matters. That's why it doesn't matter that Donald Trump was president of the United States. It doesn't matter that he is currently running for the presidency. This is America. No one is above the law. That's why it matters that Donald Trump faces consequences for his actions,” the ad concluded.
The group said it will also be running a billboard ad in Times Square that lists Trump’s 91 charges alongside his mugshot taken at the Fulton County Jail.
“Donald Trump has spent the last seven years acting like the rule of law doesn’t apply to him,” Gunner Ramer, political director of Republican Accountability Project, said in a statement. “We’re reminding the American people that no one in this country is above the law — not even a former president.”
