Queen’s Park continued their fine form with a dominant 6-0 win over Glasgow Women, earning them their first clean sheet of the season.

Returning to New Tinto Park, Queen’s Park faced Glasgow Women in the first of two consecutive meetings. Following a strong performance against St Johnstone the previous week, the Spiders were determined to conclude the month with maximum points.

Craig Joyce made two changes to the starting XI, handing Robin Gallagher and Abby Callaghan their first starts of the season in place of Monica Harty and Emma Craig. Eleanor Smith was also welcomed back to the match day squad.

The first 30 minutes of the game were relatively quiet with the Spiders enjoying most of possession. A couple shots came from Ellie Kane and Megan Quigley, as well as Glasgow’s Morgan Anderson, but nothing that troubled either keeper between the sticks.

The breakthrough did come after 35 minutes. Nicole Cairney found herself in possession in the middle of the park and played Kane though on the right wing. Kane’s cross was deflected and cleared by the Glasgow defence straight into the path of Taylor Davis. The advancing full back set herself before unleashing a powerful strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the box, marking her first goal of the season and putting the Spider’s in front.

The floodgates swung open as just 8 minutes later, Queen’s Park doubled their advantage. Davis initiated the play by winning back possession before finding Abby Callaghan’s feet. Callaghan laid it off to Cairney, who surged up the pitch before releasing Quigley on the left wing. Quigley’s driven cross met the foot of Kane, making it 2-0 for the home side.

Not even a minute later, Queen’s Park notched their third goal. The ball regained in midfield from the Glasgow kick off, and Davis played it down the line to Cairney. Cairney drove towards goal before expertly opening up her body and slotting the ball into the far corner, extending Queen’s Park’s lead to three.

The Spiders remained relentless, and their fourth goal came on the 45th minute. Callaghan played the ball into Kane in the middle of the park. Kane displayed great footwork, weaving through a couple of Glasgow players before delivering an excellent through ball to Quigley, who coolly slotted it into the back of the net, earning her first goal for the club.

Half-Time: Queen’s Park 4-0 Glasgow Women

Following the whirlwind goal-fest at the end of the first half, Queen’s Park emerged back out for the second half determined to maintain their momentum. The Spiders were keeping the ball well with some good passages of play, working their way up the park and generating numerous chances, keeping Glasgow’s Ramsay on her toes.

Their persistence paid off in the 59th minute when Quigley won possession in midfield and surged forward, releasing Callaghan through on goal. Callaghan was brought down by a Glasgow defender in the box, leading to a penalty. Kane confidently stepped up to take the spot kick and calmly slotted the ball into the side netting, notching her 7th goal of the season.

Shortly after, in the 78th minute, Queen’s Park thought they had secured the 6th goal they’d been hunting for. Emma Craig unleashed a thunderous shot from 25 yards that rattled the underside of the crossbar before bouncing on the line, then off the post and crossbar again before being cleared.

Two minutes later, the Spiders finally sealed the 6th goal. Kane played Caitlin McKee through on goal. The substitute remained composed, holding off the pressure of the Glasgow defence, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
