Drinking alcohol doesn’t give you beer goggles — but it boosts your confidence, scientists say
BOOZING does not give you beer goggles — but it does boost your confidence, researchers say.
Men were found to be 71 per cent more likely to want to chat with people they found attractive after just one bottle of beer.
But the alcohol did not make them less fussy about who they fancied.
Researchers at Stanford University, California, asked 36 men in their 20s to rate photos of prospective partners and then choose how many they would like to meet.
They were asked to rate the looks of people they viewed in photos and videos.
Participants were told that they may be given the opportunity to interact with one of those people in a future experiment.
After providing attractiveness ratings, they were asked to select those who they would most like to meet.
The same questions were posed to them on another occasion when they were given a drink with no alcohol in it.
They rated them the same before and after beer but wanted to meet more of them after drinking alcohol.
Researchers warned that the boost in confidence could be detrimental in the long run.
Dr Molly Bowdring said: “Drinkers may benefit by recognising that social intentions change when drinking — and this may be harmful.”
