NATIONAL SUMMARY
Idalia will make landfall in northwestern Florida today as
as a powerful and dangerous hurricane. Life-threatening
storm surge will occur near and to the southeast of where
the eye moves in with damaging storm surge well to the south
along the west coast of the Florida Peninsula. High winds
will lead to widespread power disruptions with the risk of
lengthy power outages due to extensive tree damage in
northern Florida. Flooding rain will also focus on northern
Florida and expand into part of the southeastern United
States mainland. Severe thunderstorms, including tornadoes,
are likely in Florida and southeastern Georgia. Elsewhere, a
few showers will dampen the Northeast and the Northwest as a
few thunderstorms erupt in Montana. Much of the Central
states and the Southwest will be dry and sunny.
