Silver Alerts issued for missing 4-year-old CT girl, mother
A 4-year-old and her mother have been reported missing after the father of the child told Bridgeport police he has not seen them in six months.
A Silver Alert has been issued for Aliyah Serrano who was last known to be in the custody of her mother, 32-year-old Valery Thayris Colon, in either New Haven or Humacao, Puerto Rico, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
“The Bridgeport Police Department is working with our law enforcement partners to bring this incident to a safe and speedy conclusion,” Capt. Kevin Gilleran said in a statement. “We are asking for the public’s help in locating Aliyah and her mother Valery.”
“Bridgeport Police Detectives are in direct communication with law enforcement authorities in Puerto Rico and New Haven,” Gilleran continued. “We are attempting to confirm the safety and health of both Aliyah and her mother Valery. This is an ongoing investigation.”
Police said the child’s father reported Aliyah missing on Monday and, a day later, also reported Colon missing. He told police he was granted full custody of Aliyah in July but that he had not had any physical contact with the child or her mother since February.
According to police, Colon’s parents have not reported their daughter or granddaughter missing.
Bridgeport police noted that they issued a Silver Alert for Aliyah Monday and later updated it to include Colon.
“To fit the criteria for an ‘amber alert’ there needs to be an ‘imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death,'” Gilleran said.
Aliyah has been described as having black hair and brown eyes. She stands about 3 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 30 pounds. Colon has been described as having brown eyes with an unknown hair color. She stands 5 feet, 8 inches tall.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Aliyah or Colon has been asked to contact Det. Robert Pascone at 203-581-5254 or call the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS.
