Netflix releases final ‘One Piece’ live action trailer ahead of August 31 premiere: ‘King of the pirates!’ [WATCH]
Calling all treasure hunters: Netflix has just released the final “One Piece” live action trailer ahead of the show’s highly anticipated August 31 premiere. And yes, you can catch a glimpse of main character Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy) wearing his iconic straw hat and shouting “King of the pirates!” at the 30-second mark of the two-minute video (watch above).
The fantasy adventure show is developed for Netflix by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda and is a live action adaptation of the popular 1997 Japanese manga series by Eiichiro Oda. The plot follows the young crew known as the Straw Hat Pirates, who search the land and sea for the titular “One Piece,” the most famous treasure in history. Per the official synopsis, “But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.”
Additional cast members include Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp and Morgan Davies as Koby. Owens and Maeda serve as writers, executive producers and showrunners.
“If the path seems too easy, then you’re on the wrong path,” Godoy’s Luffy says in the “One Piece” trailer. The high-octane video is full of explosive pirate battles and impressive stunt work, but also offers a message of hope as the main character declares, “Don’t let anything get in the way of your dreams.”
On Thursday, August 24, Netflix took over the Santa Monica Pier in California for a celebration of the “One Piece” franchise. Fans in attendance were given private access to rides and games at Pacific Pier Amusement Park, and they also experienced fun photo opps and giveaways. After the sun set, the series premiere of “One Pice” was projected onto a big screen, and then an eye-popping drone show closed out the event.
All eight episodes of Season 1 will stream August 31, 2023 on Netflix. Are you excited for the premiere of the “One Piece” live action series? Be sure to sound off down in the comments section.
