PS Plus September 2023 monthly games revealed – but subscribers shouldn’t hold their breath
PLAYSTATION has announced three new games that PS Plus subscribers can snatch for free in September 2023.
The monthly Essential games are up for grabs for all players with an active PS Plus subscription, regardless of the tier they are paying for.
For PS Plus Essential members this is the only subscription perk that provides free games for their PS4 or PS5 consoles.
The three PS Plus monthly games, which will become available to claim on September 5, 2023, are:
- Saints Row (PS4 and PS5)
- Black Desert – Traveler Edition (PS4)
- Generation Zero (PS4)
PlayStation Plus members will have until October 2, 2023, to add the games to their libraries at no additional cost.
Of course, the monthly games perk is also available to Extra and Premium subscribers, and this month’s titles are not part of the upper tiers’ game catalogue.
This means high-paying subs are also in for a bargain if they claim the titles, as they are not otherwise included in their subscriptions yet.
The catch with this month’s offering is that the titles are not exactly the best-reviewed games we’ve sometimes seen in previous months.
Saints Row is a reboot of the lighthearted crime action-adventure series which was released just over a year ago, in August 2022.
The game, in which you build your own criminal empire as the leader of a street gang in the fictional city of Santo Ileso, fell short of fans’ expectations, earning mixed reviews.
The open-world fantasy MMORPG Black Desert first launched on the PS4 in 2019 and is currently rated a decent 73/100 on review aggregator Metacritic.
PS Plus subs will be able to grab the game’s Traveler Edition, which includes The Traveler Item Pack, adding a few additional in-game items.
Generation Zero is an open-world adventure set in ‘80s alt-history Sweden ravaged by deadly machines, which players can fight alone or together with up to three friends.
Co-op mode is probably the game’s main attraction, but the title did not garner very positive reviews and is now sitting at a 45 score on Metacritic.
All in all, this month’s free games feel somewhat lacklustre, especially now that PlayStation has also announced that it’s raising the price of all PS Plus tiers.
Subscribers still have until September 4, 2023, to claim the previous month’s freebies, PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door.
Once added, these games remain in players’ libraries forever, and can be played as long as a player has an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
