In the preceding month, President Joe Biden declared his authorization of a maximum of $345 million in drawdown military assistance for Taiwan. This pertains to a system through which pre-existing materials within the inventory of the United States military may be transferred to allies and partners of the United States under certain conditions. Despite the absence of formal recognition by the U.S. government, Taiwan is afforded backing and approval for conventional weaponry shipments to its armed forces.
