I’m a car expert & here’s why you shouldn’t buy an EV – they’re too expensive and take too long to charge
A MOTORS expert has revealed the expensive reason why you should not buy an electric car.
YouTube user ExoticCar Buy Place posted a clip rubbishing the idea of owning an EV.
While conceding that “saving the planet and environmental sustainability” are important, the car guru reveals the “unfortunate reality” of why forking out for a Tesla is unwise.
One key issue with owning an electric vehicle is the “range anxiety” – where motorists scramble to locate a charging station as their batteries dwindle.
“When you find yourself in a Tesla and you’ve got 20 or 15 percent and you look on the map and you can’t find yourself a charging station, you start to get nervous,” he said.
The nifty influencer went on to point out that power grids worldwide will struggle to handle the demand as more and more people switch to electric cars.
He continued: “The infrastructure is just not there and it won’t be for quite some time.
“It’s going to take some time to expand all that.
“If everybody and their dog owned a Tesla, the grid’s not going to be capable of sustaining that type of charging system.”
As Brits continue to feel the pinch of soaring bills and rampant cost of living, most will unlikely opt for the expensive vehicles.
Comparing a diesel Chevrolet Bolt and its electrical counterpart, the influencer reveals the latter is nearly £6,000 more expensive.
“It’s quite substantial,” he continued.
“The price to get into a similar vehicle with the electric technology.
“We’re talking 20-25% more on the price point.”
EVs could also pose a safety hazard following reports of a number of Tesla’s erupting in flames.
“You can ask any emergency responders, firefighters or police, and they’ve probably had their hands full with lots of electric vehicles which have gone up in flames,” the motors guru said.
Finally, the expert informs his followers that the vehicle’s batteries are more vulnerable than diesel engines when the temperature begins to bite.
“If you want to drive this in minus minus 25 degree weather, yeah it’ll work.
“But you’ll probably only get 40 to 50 percent capacity or efficiency on those batteries.”
The video inspired near-unanimous agreement from viewers.
One user said: “As much as I like the technology, but I wouldn’t buy an EV right now.
“I prefer PHEV so much better, no range anxiety, saves gas money on in town short trips, and in home charge convenience.”
A second chimed in: “Love your channel!
“Thank you for your courage to speak the truth.”
It comes after one former EV owner has explained why she chose to return to diesel.
Abigayle Andre, who runs motors site SheTalksCars, took to TikTok to explain why owning an electric car became too much of a headache.
