As Michael Buble is set to appear in Asda Christmas ad, we reveal the weirdest celeb promos ever
BAGGING Michael Buble to appear in its Christmas advert – as exclusively revealed in The Sun – could be a stroke of genius for supermarket Asda.
The Canadian crooner, 48, known for his Yuletide hits, will play a checkout worker.
But he is not the first unlikely A-lister to feature in an ad.
Here, we reveal some of the best . . . and worst.
Mariah Carey
THE 54-year-old diva warbles: “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, before wrestling the last packet of Walkers crisps from a Christmas elf in 2019.
David Beckham
BECKS, 48, appeared in a 2008 US advert for Sharpie pens, where he tried to pinch them from fans after autographs. Not quite Armani.
Ozzy Osborne
IT could have been an unholy union when the heavy metal legend, 74, starred in a 2006 ad for I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.
He says the line: “Fairy cakes? I’m the Prince of Darkness – I’m doing rock cakes”. Rock ’n’ roll-ing pin!
Uma Thurman
KILL Bill beauty Uma, 53, starred in a sultry 2011 ad for Schweppes, saying: “I love Schweppes – I need to have it all the time.”
When asked: “You mean sex, right?”, she scoffs: “No, Schweppes. Hey, what did you expect?” Cringe.
Harvey Kettel
THE 84-year-old Hollywood star reprised his Pulp Fiction character for a series of Direct Line insurance adverts from 2014.
In a similar line to one from his film, he says: “I’m Winston Wolfe, I fix problems”. Phew. That’s a relief.
Kim Cattrall
SHE’S the ultimate siren in Sex And The City, and in a 2012 Nintendo ad Kim, 67, purrs: “There are many men in my life but I’ll always find time for Mario [the iconic game character ].”
Robert De Niro
GANGSTER movie icon Robert, 80, brought in the dough by starring in a 2019 ad for British bakers Warburtons.
They must have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse – and it led to wags cheekily dubbing him The Cobfather.
Jenson Button
IN a 2011 Head & Shoulders ad, ex-F1 ace Jenson, 43, reviewed his life in rhyme, saying “racing”, “spacing” and “wow, it’s bracing”.
His efforts won him a spot in Campaign mag’s worst ads of the year.
