We live like The Wild Thornberrys in our van with our kids – we love our tiny home even though some said we’d regret it
AN adventurous mum has revealed why she quit her job and spent the last four years living in a tiny van with her children.
Mum-of-four Cassie Bailey and her husband sold their home and quit work to live in an RV with their kids, just like kids TV characters The Wild Thornberrys.
In a recent video, Cassie wrote: “RV living completely transformed our quality of life. No longer living with regrets.”
In the clip, Cassie shares her story while tidying her flashy RV, which features a master bedroom, hidden bunk beds and a full kitchen with an island and posh worktops.
“We’re a family of six living full time in our camper with our four kids, and today is move day,” she explains.
“We have been working, adventuring, home schooling and living full time in our RV for four years now.
“This journey started for us back in 2018 when we almost lost our son to undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes and Coeliac Disease.
“While we were in the hospital waiting for him to become stable and not even sure what his future looked like, both my husband and I had so many regrets of things we had not done and seen and experienced with our five year old son.”
When the pair got back from the hospital, they were hit with more bad news – Cassie’s husband had been replaced at work.
“We were both working so hard on our businesses to grow our careers, all while missing so much time with what mattered most,” she says.
“We knew this lifestyle was not substantial, that we could not keep going the way we were going.
“We were burnt out, working all the time to be able to afford the car and the house and the things.
“We craved a life we didn’t need a vacation from so we did what any sane person would do.”
So what did they do? They sold everything they had – including their house – and moved into their RV.
“Of course people thought that we were crazy and we would not make it in this lifestyle and they were worried about how the kids would even socialise,” she says.
“And here we are four years in and absolutely in love with the lifestyle we have created.
“If there’s anything you dream of doing you absolutely can do it.
“I’m not here to convince you to live full time in an RV but I am here to tell you that you were not created to just live, pay bills and die.”
While some trolls bombarded the mum with questions like ‘how do your kids make friends if you’re always moving?’ and ‘what about when they get bigger and need more room?’, other followers claim she’s living the dream.
One user said: “Wild Thornbaileys, love it. Also my dream is to pack up and do this one day.”
And a second wrote: “This is amazing, proud of you.”
