Sununu says he'll endorse 2024 GOP candidate before New Hampshire primary
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said Sunday he plans to endorse a GOP presidential candidate before his state's primary next year.
"I would think so. Yeah, I really — look I'm not very good about being coy," Sununu told ABC's Jonathan Karl on "This Week" when asked if he would endorse a candidate before the New Hampshire GOP primary.
When asked about who is on his "short list" for who he would endorse, Sununu said he is looking at all the candidates, noting he is looking for a one who understands what everyday people are asking regarding their day-to-day lives.
"Well, I wouldn't say there's a shortlist I'm out there with all the candidates," he said. "I'm seeing kind of how they do the retail politics. I'm a big believer — good retail politics translate into good retail management. And that's what the White House needs, someone that understands what's happening in in folks' everyday lives as opposed to just watching the media all the time."
"They're not asking you about January 6, people aren't asking questions about the indictments," Sununu added. "They're asking about inflation. They're asking about border security. They're asking about things and issues, mental health, the opioid crisis."
Sununu has been a critic of the GOP frontrunner, former President Trump. He said that he does not believe Trump will be the Republican candidate for 2024, adding that he has a "real problem" with only four Republican governors endorsing him so far. He also predicted President Biden would not be the Democratic nominee, but did not elaborate.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) endorsed the former president on Friday.
