Miami Hurricanes standout Kam Kinchens ‘doing better’ after scary injury at end of Texas A&M game
Miami Hurricanes All-American safety Kamren Kinchens had to be taken to the hospital after being carted off the field near the end of Miami’s win over Texas A&M on Saturday.
Fortunately, Kinchens said he was doing well Sunday afternoon.
“I want to thank everyone for the prayers,” Kinchens wrote on social media. “I’m doing better. Love y’all.”
Kinchens’ high school coach, Max Edwards, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that he spoke with Kinchens Saturday night, and the UM safety told him in a text message that he was OK.
The Hurricanes posted a photo on social media of Kinchens smiling and doing the “U” sign from his hospital bed.

Kinchens’ injury had cast a pall over the Hurricanes’ win, but Miami coach Mario Cristobal offered reassurance and said early the reports on Kinchens’ injury were encouraging.
“Kam will be in my prayers, in my heart,” Miami safety James Williams said. “He’s the heart and soul of the team. He really wants to win. He really wants to change the culture here. Doesn’t like losing. … He not only pushed me, he pushes everybody around me to be great. He wants us to be great. He wants us to be better than we already are.
“A guy like Kam, that’s an amazing guy. I love him to death. That’s my boy.”
Kinchens grew into a leader as a sophomore in 2022. He was named an All-American after recording six interceptions last season.
Miami defensive back Jaden Davis, who transferred from Oklahoma in the offseason, said Kinchens showed leadership soon after Davis arrived in Coral Gables. The junior safety called a players meeting, and the entire team showed up early, showing Davis the team was ready to work hard with Kinchens leading the way.
“I’ve been places where you call a players meeting and some guys show up, some guys don’t, some guys straggle in,” Davis said.
“But he called a players meeting, and everybody was in the locker room 15 minutes before. Everybody was there on time, and that was one of my first days here. This was before the summer, before we put in that grind. So it’s just like once I’ve seen that, I knew that these guys were ready to work and I came to the right place.
