Strong thunderstorms expected to roll through northern CT Sunday evening

Strong thunderstorms were expected to roll through parts of northern Connecticut on Sunday evening.

As of about 1:45 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking several strong thunderstorms moving about 10 mph along a line from Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service’s Boston office.

The service said ” chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. remains.”

For Monday the service forecast: “A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m.”

The storms were expected to bring heavy rainfall and minor flooding and winds up to 30 mph. The storms may impact Hartford, New Britain, West Hartford, East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Newington, Vernon, Windsor and South Windsor, according to a special weather statement by the NWS.

The weather service warned people to stay safe by heading indoors when they hear thunder, stay inside until at least 30 minutes after a storm has passed and avoid driving through flooded roads or underpasses.
