Netflix‘s Dear Child is a German miniseries novel adaptation of the same name written by German author Romy Hausmann.

It narrates the story of a woman who suffered a catastrophic car accident – but things are not all what they seem.

The mysterious series premiered on the streaming giants platform on September 7 and has six episodes that follow the story of a woman called Jasmine (Kim Riedle) and a child called Hannah (Naila Schuberth), who appears to her daughter.

Jasmine’s unexpected appearance at the hospital after the car accident and her inability to remember anything apart from a brutal rape raises suspicions, with police who end up reopening a 13-year-old missing case.

Since its debut, the series has become popular and skyrocketed amongst Netflix viewers who took to the platform “X” to share their opinions about the film adaptation.

One user wrote: “I watched Dear Child on Netflix. I know I’m struggling to sleep tonight,” while a fourth said: “Dear Child on Netflix is f***ing with my brain, but it’s definitely interesting.”

Another added: “Dear Child on Netflix is a must watch! It’s a limited series, but boy, did it have me on the edge of my seat.”

A third penned: “Dear Child on Netflix was a really good limited series with so many plot twists.”

A fourth chimed in: “Guys, I’ve Watched #DearChild on Netflix last night—by far, one of the best binges I’ve had in years.

“True crime, psychological thriller, murder mystery all rolled up into 1 6-part miniseries.”

“Very Josef Fritzl meets Room meets Gone Girl.”

A fifth followed: “I love when a limited series wraps everything up with a satisfying ending. This one is perfect #DearChildNetflix.”

Speaking with Netflix’s Die Woche newspaper, Julian Porksen, the co-writer and co-director

explained: “These are all damaged characters: people who are severely scarred by a crime and deal with it very differently.

“The perpetrator is often the focus of such series and is glorified as a mysterious, dark force. That’s not the case with us.

“And there is a main character who is extraordinary in every way. A girl who has a special view of the world, a special way of speaking, thinking and experiencing.”

The gripping story is partly narrated by Hannah and mostly seen through the eyes of the victims.

Dear Child is available to stream on Netflix now.
