The aftermath of the season-ending injury suffered by Aaron Rodgers provided a number of questions and brought a wide-range of emotions and debates. When factoring in how the Jets rallied to win their Week 1 matchup with the Bills in thrilling fashion—on an overtime punt-return touchdown by Xavier Gipson—it made for one wild Monday Night Football game, literally from start to finish.
The franchise and coach Robert Saleh have now shifted their attention from the severity of Rodgers’s injury, which was confirmed as a torn Achilles, to plans for the remainder of this season. And less than 48 hours after the injury, we can also close the door on a hypothetical outcome featuring Tom Brady joining Gang Green.
Brady’s retirement appears to be for good this time. The Jets are reportedly opting against reaching out about Brady’s potential desire to return, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
You can mark one name off the Jets’ list of potential QBs: Tom Brady. I’m told the team will not be inquiring with Brady about any interest in a return to football. Brady has also made clear to people close to him, he’s done playing football.
This doesn’t come as a major surprise when factoring in comments made by Saleh on Tuesday which fully endorsed Zach Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback.
“I want to make it very clear, Zach's our quarterback. We have a lot of faith in Zach. We’re rolling with Zach and excited for him,” Saleh told reporters.
Not only that, but Saleh was very clear there’d be no “competition” at quarterback when speaking with reporters.
“Under no circumstances is any of this a competition. This is Zach [Wilson]’s team and we’re rolling with Zach,” Saleh said.
