Swiss canton Valais refuses to fast-track construction of solar park

BERN, Switzerland: Voters in the southern Swiss region of Valais rejected a plan over last weekend to allow the construction of large solar parks, part of the federal government's efforts to shift to renewable energy sources amid the effects of climate change.

After the referendum, the Valais canton wrote on its official website that 53.94 percent voted against the proposal, with the turnout being 35.72 percent.<
