Boy, 12, seriously injured in CT crash involving stolen SUV
A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in Bridgeport when an SUV crashed into a utility pole about 20 minutes after the vehicle was reported stolen, police said.
At about 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, multiple 911 calls came in reporting an SUV striking a pole near Railroad Avenue and Hancock Avenue, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
Firefighters were the first to arrive on the scene and found an empty Kia Soul and a “completely damaged” utility pole. The Kia had been reported stolen at 9:06 p.m., police said.
The city’s Emergency Operations Center contacted local hospitals to see if anyone was being treated for injuries from a motor vehicle accident and learned that a boy with serious injuries from a crash had been evaluated at Bridgeport Hospital and then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, officials said.
The crash was still under investigation and it was not immediately known who was driving the SUV at the time of the crash.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Officer Eroildo Quiles at 475-422-6141 or use the city’s tip line by contacting 203-576-TIPS.
